Barbering
Agnes, with self-barbered arms and chest
Barbering is overgrooming by the rat either of itself or of other rats, producing bald patches. The most common areas for self barbering are on the forearms and on the flank. When barbering their companions it is usually done on the face and neck.
Causes can be stress, lack of stimulation or just an annoying habit. The tendency to barber can be hereditary, so it may be best not to breed from barberers.
