Boggling describes the rapid popping in and out of a rat's eyes; a sign of pleasure. It occurs because rats tend to 'brux' or grate their teeth when very happy, and when this becomes extreme it affects the eyes due to the closeness of the jaw joint and jaw muscles to the back of the eye.
