Free-Ranging and Play Time
Free-ranging is the practice of letting your pet rats out of their cage to explore the environment, usually confined to one room, although some rat keepers allow access to the whole house.
Rat Proofing a Room
Make sure all electric cables are not in reach of your rats (keeping in mind rats can jump a staggering 4 ft in some cases). If the room picked to free range your rats has many holes or open doorspaces you may want to consider a playpen (see below).
