Scatter Feeding

The provision of food scattered across the base of the cage into deep substrate, which encourages natural foraging behaviour and provides interest and enrichment for the rat. In conjunction with slightly restricted feeding this is a useful tool for preventing obesity, and I find that there is no uneaten food left at clean out time.

One downside known to this is if food is left too long in the cage, it can therefore lead to further hygiene and health problems. It should therefore not be used with free feeding.
